A bloodcurdling scream shattered the heavy silence. It echoed through the empty hall, eliciting goosebumps to rise on my arms. My heart hammered within his chest as I sought to pinpoint the source of the horrifying sound.

She was fighting/struggling/battling, but against what? Against whom? The world dissolved into a blurry chaos of pain and fear before she finally awoke, gasping/coughing/shuddering, the lingering taste of terror heavy on her tongue.

It unfolds as an insidious squeeze on your chest. You attempt to breathe, but each suck of air is met with a resistance. The world beside you blurs into a darkened emptiness, and your eyesight loses focus.
